So you’re interested in Michigan’s secluded cabin rentals? You’re thinking how fun it would be to get just a little bit closer to nature? Maybe venture into the backwoods and enjoy the scenery with your loved ones or even by yourself? I completely understand that you’d want to know all the things before taking a big adventure to any secluded cabin rentals.
things to ask yourself before booking your getaway to any secluded cabin rentals
#1 What time of year do you plan on going?
This may seem silly but many places off the beaten path, or anywhere that experiences extreme weather, will often close during these months. So even though winter sports might be your thing, the place you’re scoping out might not even be open.
While winter can be a challenge, fall is a whole different story! It’s such a gorgeous time of year depending on where the secluded cabin rentals are located. Do your research and find their peak season. It’ll be totally worth it!
And obviously summer is a must anywhere in Michigan!
#2 What types of activities do you have in mind?
Depending on the location of the secluded cabin rentals you may want to consider if the property you’re visiting is lakefront. Will you be fishing? If so make sure you obtain the proper license for the state you’re in.
The Twin Cedars Resort is a lakefront property located in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and is known as a little fishing resort with a wide variety of fish including walleye, perch, bluegill, pike, large and small mouth bass.
We always remind our guests that a valid Michigan fishing license is required for anyone over 17 years old. However, there are a couple of free fishing weekends offered every year. Visit the Michigan DNR website for dates.
The mitten state and her neighboring upper peninsula are known for gorgeous beaches that you definitely don’t want to miss. Hiking trails are abundant here and with the North Country Trail so close by there won’t be a lack of exploring on foot.
Chances are fairly good that wherever in Michigan you plan on visiting there will be some area attractions that draw tourists to the area. Don’t count them out, even if you prefer to stay off the beaten path. Consider creating an itinerary but don’t be too strict with it.
#3 Are there recreational rentals available?
ORV’s (off road vehicles) are HUGE up here! And with tons of trails all over Michigan, rentals can be found but keep in mind that secluded cabin rentals may be a bit out of the way. Although, nothing a quick goog search can’t handle 😉
Row boats and motors for fishing, pontoon boats for families and even fishing poles or gear are some of the rentals available to you at Twin Cedars Resort. Or you may even own a boat that you’d like to bring. Make sure you have a place to dock it and somewhere to park your trailer.
Kayaking Michigan’s rivers and lakes is a beautiful way to quiet your mind and get up close with nature. From the Pictured Rocks National Lake Shore to short trips through the canals near Twin Cedars, a day on the water is always a good day!
#4 Are you traveling with a pet?
While most people love dogs, they don’t always welcome Fido with open arms at some secluded cabin rentals. And even if they do accept pets they may have certain restrictions on size and additional fees for cleaning after you leave. Just make sure you know before you go…
#5 Is there a fire-pit?
There’s nothing better than the crackle of a fire when you’re in the heart of a forest or at a quiet lakeside cabin. Be sure to find out if they provide the firewood or if you’d need to bring your own.
And it would be a crying shame if you forgot your s’mores kit!
#6 What are some nearby attractions you can’t miss?
This is a great time to talk with locals or the owners of the secluded cabin rentals you’ll be visiting. They are often the best resource! Here are a few we often tell our guests not to miss out on.
Tahquamenon Falls
Whitefish Point & Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum
Oswald’s Bear Ranch
Lake Michigan Beach
Mackinac Island
#7 How do you make a reservation for secluded cabin rentals?
So much of life is online these days but there are still some great places that don’t take online reservations. Don’t let this deter you from taking a trip. Most likely you’ve found some secluded cabin rentals on the web but people are afraid of making phone calls anymore. Trust me, you can actually get a good vibe on a place just from having a short conversation.
Here are some ways to learn more about us. Checkout our Rooms & Rates page to see all the units we have to offer. Then you can either contact us here or call our office 906-569-3209. We are a small resort owned by a husband and wife team. We are here to help!
We recently added a few of our units to Airbnb and I must admit I was nervous about how it would work out. But alas, it’s great! Especially for those who want to accomplish everything in one fell swoop – search, reserve and pay all in one place.
#8 Is WiFi a deal breaker?
If you’re looking at secluded cabin rentals chances are pretty good that you need a getaway that truly a getaway… Make sure you understand that you may not have access to WiFi or even data service at all. And if you think you can’t survive without this technology, you may decide that staying somewhere secluded isn’t right for you. But, either way I would encourage you to connect with nature instead of the internet.
#9 Do the secluded cabin rentals allow campers or tents?
Maybe you’re traveling with a larger group? Or you want a space to put the kids so the grown-ups can have their own fun. Either way, never assume! Some secluded cabin rentals just don’t have the space or they have certain regulations due to insurance limitations.
#10 What will you do for food?
If you’re renting an entire cabin in the middle of nowhere make sure you have a plan for food. I can’t tell you how many times people have checked into our resort late or didn’t get back to their unit until after 4th of July fireworks and wanted to “run” and grab a bite to eat. It’s almost comical to us but people from larger areas are used to having conveniences that just aren’t available around these parts…
Many secluded cabin rentals don’t have nearby 24 hour restaurants, or even late dining, for that matter. Also be prepared to shop before you arrive. If the location you’re going to is lucky enough to have a little corner market it likely won’t have specialty items… and when I say specialty items I mean simple things like bananas.
