Wow! So this is the final post in the Moving on U.P. series. To get caught up check out part 1 and part 2.
Whirlwind couldn’t possibly describe what’s been going on around here. We are all moved up as of last weekend…which was resort opening weekend too. I wonder if you could actually see my head spinning?
I’d like to say we all made it in one piece, however Phynn the Fish lost a few scales, though I’m thinking he’s just happy to be alive. How to move a goldfish 101…remove half of the water from his 10 gallon tank (that thing was still heavy), place in a secure location on the hauling trailer, stop in Mackinaw City to check on him before crossing The Mighty Mac, check again when you stop at McDonald’s just across the bridge (because let’s be real…it’s been very difficult to have any sort of real meal with all of this busy moving, busy business, busy work, busy school…) – ok this is where it all went bad for Phynn the Fish – no water in the tank and he’s just laying there on his sea-tank floor for who knows how long.
So B and I didn’t see any movement, no puffing for air…or water or whatever…so we figure that was it for Phynn the Fish. We go on in to order and return to the truck…B having the big heart (he’ll never admit it) that he does, checks on Phynn the Fish and discovers he flopped. B, knowing we can’t just give up on the poor guy, runs over to a gas station that has bait tanks for fishermen. In the rush for a life saving attempt, the loving-of-animals cashier was more than happy to supply us with an extra large cup to save Phynn. I believe she exclaimed, “Go save that fish!”
The lesson? Put your friendly family fish in a small separate container to avoid having a casualty on your hands.
Moved in but not yet settled…we still have a lot to do and learn!
When you own a laundry mat along with your resort it’s a good thing…cause you will have a lot of laundry. However I’m starting to understand the many little things you learn along the way that are invaluable. Take for example…starting all of the washers at the same time because you think, “awesome! my little OCD can get the laundry done all at once!”
I think the call to B went something like this…”Ummm we have a flood on our hands…”
Yes my friends, the lesson here is that when all those babies start spinning, all that water has to go somewhere and when it all can’t fit in the little pipe at once…well that calls for a good mopping…silver lining I suppose…
As a DIY journey type of blog I’ve got to include the recent upgrades for the house – mini? yes, but time will happen as it always does.
The 2 things I’ve learned about guys and their priorities when it comes to a home is #1 technology and #2 where they do number 2. My oh my! the time spent on the phone with the satellite company…and lest we forget that the toilets must be top notch…although I have to admit I enjoy a good potty…who doesn’t? Men…it’s a good thing they have us women to balance them out.
My mini-DIY of choice was removing the shower doors to the tub. We will, eventually, completely renovate the space and expand the bathroom, but if you want an immediate update to any bathroom that has older style shower doors…remove them and hang a shower curtain. Easier to clean, easier to navigate and looks sooo much better.
We are so excited to be on this adventure and it feels amazing to share the experience with all of you – please leave a comment below, follow and like The Twin Cedars on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram to get all of our updates.
I’m finally starting to work on the website for the resort and you’ll be the first to know when it’s up and running. In the meantime, you can head on over to the Twin Cedars Resort facebook page for all the fun stuff happening. I have a feeling this summer is going to be full of family, friends, fishing, flowers and tons of fun – with a little side of crazy!
A Phynn Update:
Of course when we showed up with Phynn in a cup, I had some explaining to do. I was really worried Phynn may not make it…I mean goldfish don’t stay around that long anyway. So I thought there may be some sadness, a tear or two, a flushing funeral…Nope – he’s goin’ strong…in a little smaller habitat…that fish is going to live forever.
