If you’re not careful Mackinac Island fudge will contribute to your pudge! And finding the best one is like going on a sugary journey through Willie Wonka’s factory without an oompa-loompa tour guide.
My Mackinac Island Fudge Pudge
Mackinac Island takes you back in time the second you step off the ferry boat. So naturally that has me wondering where the sweet – Mackinac Island fudge – treat, originated.
Legend has it…
some “fudged” brownies in the late 1800’s were the result of this modern day gluttony. But it was on Mackinac Island that fans were installed to waft the glorious scent onto the unknowing passerby’s. Imagine the scene playing out. The sudden acknowledgement of a new palate-pleaser to feast upon.
Way back when there was only one candy shop creating such confections but it didn’t take long for other shops to catch on. Soon our little island became known for its Mackinac Island fudge and I sorta wonder if anyone else appreciates the irony…
Ya know… fudge… horse shit…
They kinda look the same. One smells good. While the other… uhhh not so much. Perhaps an ingenious design? I don’t know but I’m going with it.
So now I’m starting to see the light. Aren’t you?
A 100+ year plan to make us addicted to that deliciousness. And not to mention why they’re now calling us “fudgies.”
It’s a conspiracy!
Fudgies flock to the candy coated, Mackinac Island fudge display cases. Eager eyes, sweaty palms and aching taste buds that long for that smooth, sweet creamy texture. It comes in a million different flavors. Chocolate ones, nutty ones, berry ones, maple ones…
The real problem here? I’ve never met a fudge that I didn’t like!
