This is our beginning…
By day I’m a nurse. By…well…the rest of my day…I’m a new-old resort owner, a mother and a wife to a newly retired – to chase our dreams – police officer.
It all started with a “what-if?”
- What if we could live life on our own terms?
- What if we could create something that we truly treasured?
- What if we buy the family business and make it ours??!!
So while that mulled over and over and over in my mind the thought of this adventure began to grow on me. Conversations with the in-laws to “take over” were somewhat daunting because we all had fears…well all except for my husband. His excitement grows on me. And the thought of a “normal” schedule for him, less stress and a less dangerous career are all good things. So fear for him is not the same kind of fear for us, ya know?
Twin Cedars is a small fishing resort on a mostly private lake – there are very few houses and a small amount of traffic – in a nutshell, Heaven! His parents started with a dream for a better life over 40 years ago and as they grew older it became clear to us, that the resort would one day be sold and no longer our sanctuary…our place to go home to.
When my husband mentioned this to me for the first time I was absolutely, positively, no way! no how! not going to move all the way to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. My gosh our winters are cold! And do you realize how much work needs to be done at the resort? Not to mention a teenage daughter who would for sure hate us for moving her away from all of her friends.
Until the day their dream became ours.
This was the place where life actually started for us. We were married here the summer of 2008 on the lake in front of what is now our home and the quaint little cabins that are filled with happy, summertime vacationers. Sounds amazing, right?
Well…there is work to be done! Many updates and projects that will help to create a space of our own in this beautiful part of the world.
Have you ever wanted to drop everything and start over?
This blog is about the transition from our day jobs to making a dream our reality.
To be able to follow your passion and feel so deeply rooted and connected to something…a place that can only be what we make of it. That is truly the American Dream!
I admire creativity, strive for pretty scenery and try not to stress when everything’s all wintery. I’m a dreamer, believer and a car-concert-rock star-singer. I’m a wife, mother and new-old resort owner. Welcome to the blog!
