Frequently Asked Questions
Unfortunately we are not open during the winter months. Our season starts May 15th and closes mid October.
Check-in time for ALL units is 4pm. If you think you’ll be arriving sooner please let us know ahead of time and we’ll do our best to have your unit ready for you. Also, kindly let us know if you’ll be arriving after 8pm so we can direct you where to go.
Checkout times for cabins 1, 2, 3 and 5 is at 3pm on Friday and at 10am for cabin 4 and motel rooms 6 & 7.
We require a 30 day notice prior to your reservation to cancel for any reason. Please keep in mind we are a tiny business – husband and wife team, that relies on our reservations to make a living for only 5 months out of the year. If you need to cancel our hope is to have a chance to re-book those dates for someone else with enough time to do so.
Absolutely! There’s a wide variety of fish in Frenchman Lake including walleye, perch, bluegill, pike, large and small mouth bass. A valid Michigan fishing license is required for anyone over 17 years old. However, there are a couple of free fishing weekends offered every year. Visit the Michigan DNR website for dates.
We do not sell licenses here, however, you can purchase them at the Trout Lake Corner Store about a mile away or at the Holiday gas station in St. Ignace (first exit after the Mackinac Bridge).
Oh yeah! We have a bait house with minnows, worms, crawlers, leeches, etc. They are subject to seasonal availability so if there’s something special you need please let us know in advance.
There’s also fishing poles available for purchase or rent, along with a small variety of artificial bait and other tackle you may need during your stay.
We have a fish cleaning shack! It is located right next to the bait house. It has everything you need to clean your catch, including knives, running water, electricity (for late nights) and a cutting table.
Yep! We have 14 foot aluminum row boats, included each day with a cabin or motel booking. Motors are available for an additional cost. We also have kayak rentals and a pontoon boat we added to our fleet in 2017. Our boat rentals are only available on Frenchman Lake at this time.
You sure can! To be certain we have availability and reserve your spot, you can give us a call at 906-569-3209.
Sure thing! Please let us know when you book your reservation so we can make room on our long dock and make adjustments for trailer parking.
Indeed we are! You can access ORV trails directly from the resort. Please let us know when you book your reservation so we can be sure to accommodate for trailers.
The North Country Trail is very close by for excellent hiking and many more that are a short drive.
We are centrally located in the Eastern Upper Peninsula with great places to explore. Here’s a few to get you started:
Tahquamenon Falls ~ 45 minutes
Whitefish Point & Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum ~ 1 hour 20 minutes
Oswald’s Bear Ranch ~ 35 minutes
Lake Michigan Beach ~ 30 minutes
Mackinac Island ~ 30 minutes to the docks
9 am to 8 pm. However, there’s always someone at the resort house if emergencies arise so feel free to call or text us! 906-569-3209
You can either contact us here or call our office 906-569-3209. We are a small resort owned by a husband and wife team. We do not have online booking available.
Please check out our driving instructions. Also, please be aware that your GPS may be inaccurate if you enter our street address. This is the U.P. and for some reason satellite maps can’t figure us out.
We kindly ask that you smoke cigarettes/e-cigs/vapes/tobacco pipes/cigars outside. We have ashtrays provided for each cabin/motel room deck table.
We DO NOT allow any other kind of smoking on the premises. This includes but is not limited to marijuana, crack, meth… whatever other drugs that are smoke-able. And for that matter please don’t snort stuff either – Meghan is a nurse and she’ll tell you that it should be avoided altogether… and Bob used to be a cop so he’s seen some crazy stuff, ya know?
But in all seriousness, we understand that marijuana is legal in the state of Michigan, medical and recreational, but we would like to reserve our right as small business owners, to ask you not smoke it on property – thanks for understanding 🙂
We love animals! And only allow dogs in Motel Room #6. Please see our pet policy for all the details.
Of course! Our fire pit is located at the patio next to the lake. This is a common area for our resort guests. We also provide fire wood but please be respectful. If you think you’ll be going in soon, it is our request that you don’t pile it on. Also, keep in mind that our biggest threat in the U.P. is forest fires so keep your campfire at a moderate level.
Also, please do not pore water over the pit to put it out. This makes it harder to start the next day. Simply spread out the coals and let it die down on its own.
Quiet time is at 11 pm. You don’t have to go to bed but please keep it down for those who do.
Yes! Finally! We’ll make sure you get our guest password upon check-in.
Side note: keep in mind that cell service can still be spotty, at best, in certain areas of the U.P. And depending on your provider may be non-existent. Always good to be prepared!
Usually the first or second week of October. But don’t hold us to that cause mother nature has a mind of her own.
No.
We certainly do! The resort gets shut down in October but we’re still home. Bob works throughout the winter on cabin updates or shoveling off roofs or watching football/hockey 😉 while I (Meghan) continue my work as a nurse at our local hospital in St. Ignace and dream of the warmer days of summer…
