Replacing old windows is actually pretty easy. A little heavy lifting yes, but a new window install is a fairly simple process, easy to follow and is the fastest way to having the best energy efficiency in your new-old home.
There are so many things we’ve accomplished this winter during our resort “off season,” and I can’t wait to give you guys all the details and reveal our awesome transformations, but…
I’m telling you that the biggest impact has been installing the new windows.

If you’ve been following along then you know that we moved here last spring to continue the legacy of Twin Cedars Resort and become 2nd generation owners of this beautiful slice of heaven.
We are very lucky that Bob was able to retire early…umhm (throat clear) I’m very lucky that he is also very handy and together we are working to make the little resort house our home.
Renovations started Fall 2015 and we’ve lived through it all. I’m talkin’ lived…breathed, slept, ate, survived through it.
Now complete: the living room, Kylee’s bedroom, bathroom, the resort office and the living room.
Fall 2016 will be a whole ‘notha set of surviving. Master bedroom, kitchen (oh I can’t wait! but yikes!), utility/maintenance closet, resort linen and storage room. We will also plan on studding in the master bathroom and see how far we get. We’re already planning on running out of time for that piece, so we’ll peck away at it and likely complete it Fall 2017.
It’s truly a blessing to be able to live right on property, the downfall is that you really have to dedicate high traffic seasons to your business. Spring and summer.
If you would’ve asked me last spring if I’d be excited to open again this spring, I might’ve called you crazy. But I really am! (excited, not crazy…but some may disagree)
Last spring was a whole different beast! I’m thinking we’ll be a little more prepared, more organized and I’ll actually know what I’m doing…let’s hope…
Adding Energy Efficiency | New Window Install
I’ve got a lot to reveal about these windows…installing (what I’ve got for you today), beautiful craftsman inspired interior finishes, of course dressing them but my favorite will be the surprise for our returning guests 😉
Since today is the ugly not so pretty part, you guys will understand that the best is yet to come! The Blah must come first…but this is the main focus…installing new windows for better energy efficiency, so if that’s what you need to know about, then you’re in the right place!
Here we go…
The handyman hard at work. Use a reciprocating saw like this one to work the old window out of its casing.
Getting these old buggers out is the hardest part.
Crowbars come in handy quite often around here.
Outside view after the original trim has been removed.
This Oscillating Tool kit by DeWalt is a must have for many DIY projects! We used it here to remove the rest of the old material.
And look! Bob knows how to use a broom!
A bead of Dap Window, Door and Trim Caulk.
Place the new window and level her out! This is the only step he needed me for. Hence my fancy green and pink gloves make me look official:)
All I can think of for this pic is “monkey.” Securing that baby in place.
The final photo shows a nice bright white new trim…I was not home for this step and because I’m the photo taker that step-for-step is missing. Prior to placing your final trim you must wrap all seams with a self adhesive window wrap (follow manufacturer instructions). To finish, we used a pre-finished PVC board made for outdoor window trim.
New Windows for the best Energy Efficiency
So I mentioned that we have some other big projects to share with you and I’m so happy with the finished product of the huge picture window. Let me just say that the Lake View is going to be incredible this summer.
