I’ve wanted to put together a list of Michigan made products for quite some time now. And since Christmas is right around the corner I figured I’d better get my a** in gear, if ya know what I mean?
Are you a gift-giving procrastinator or do you have it all figured out by the time you take down the decorations from this year?
Michigan Made Products Gift-guide
Here’s our official – unofficial 😉 Michigan made products for everyone on your list. Seriously!
1. a classic!
The Stormy Kromer, a modified baseball cap that originated when George “Stormy” Kromer, a semi-professional baseball player turned railroad engineer, kept losing hats to the wind.
The cap hasn’t changed much since his wife created the very first one in 1903 but there are now many coordinating items in the product line including mittens, coats and bags. There are even pet jackets and caps! Want to look like a a local when you visit the Upper Peninsula? Get a Stormy Kromer Cap and you’ll fit right in 😉
2. MI pride at your fingertips
The Original Michigan Mittens started as a husband and wife team in 2007 with an idea for warm mittens. As Michiganders they were very aware of our affinity to use our hands to explain our location in this great state. Soon Michigan Mittens were born with a map of Michigan’s upper and lower peninsula represented on each hand.
This company with great integrity now has other products to offer that compliment their signature mittens. Find items for baby, mugs and hats – just to name a few.
3. taste of Michigan
Think of a monthly subscription box that includes tons of yummy tastes made only in Michigan. There are several options to choose from for this box, including by the month, 3 months, 6 months or a full year. The longer your subscription, the more you save – plus free shipping!
The Mitten Crate is a great idea for your favorite Michigander or even someone from out of state that you’d like to spoil with a crate-full of goodness.
4. handmade Michigan jewelry
I first heard about Rebel Nell Jewelry during a trip to Detroit around Christmastime. In search of a unique shopping experience, I headed to the Renaissance Center where their annual Holiday Headquarters pop-up market was in full swing.
Not just one-of-a-kind jewelry, but a good cause and the story behind a company like this makes me proud to wear my earrings…and they’re so pretty! I knew the second I saw them I had to have them and then when I heard their mission I knew I had to share it.
Described as wearable art from fallen layers of graffiti found around the city, this company not only teaches woman how to craft these awesome pieces, but assists in their independence from difficult situations. Certainly something we could all get behind!
5. so crafty/diy-er
Wise Owl Chalk Synthesis Paints is a Michigan based company with a mission to inspire painters, DIY-ers and crafters to use products that are safe and free from harsh chemicals. Their site is full of ideas on how to re-purpose, rehab or even create new pieces of furniture with these highly pigmented chalk synthesis paints.
Their line also includes finishing products and awesome brushes for many types of projects. And if you’ve been following this blog long enough you know that we once thought our direction was in the DIY space. Click here to see a project I actually did using these paints.
6. the health nut
The Purple Beet is a great little company located in Northern Michigan started by a licensed Chiropractor who was looking for easy, healthy alternatives for herself and her family.
She later branched out creating unique recipes to offer friends and family that include produce from local farmers and vendors. There are several ways to get your smoothie fix. Sign up for a monthly or bimonthly subscription box, a one-time sampler order, or even have a blending experience at your own on-site event. How fun, delicious and unique!
7. the adventurer
Buy an experience rather than a physical item. I’ve loved sharing some of our unique-to-Michigan experiences that’ll speak to an adventurous heart.
A Pictured Rocks Kayak Tour might just be that perfect thing you’re searching for. Even though I purchased this gift for Bob for his birthday last winter we obviously couldn’t take the trip right away but it was nice to look forward to some summertime fun. And seeing this incredible national park didn’t disappoint, nor did he feel bad getting an adventure he couldn’t experience right then.
8. Twin Cedars Resort Gear
Cause we just LOVE it here! Perfect if you’re looking for a getaway for an outdoorsy couple, your fun family or even a single person looking for peace and quiet for a little fishing. See all our insider tips for awesome things to do in this beautiful area!
9. unique Michigan art
I fell in love with these pieces from The Big Lake when I happened across her Instagram feed while scrolling Michigan hashtags. There are tons she has to offer in her shop from prints, decals, stickers and cards with our great state of Michigan, woodland scenes and wildlife on them.
10. favorite MI based etsy sellers!
Makers are my kind of people! And since I’m not nearly as creative as these incredible Michigan based Etsy Sellers I’ll leave these right here. Hanson St. with some of the most adorable knitted hats, cowls and headbands.
The Little Flower Soap Co. has the best gift sets for anyone who’s hard to buy for – and it doesn’t hurt that they’re products are all natural and packaged with care.
Finally, Liv A Little – wood signs has so many options to choose from, that are all so cute you’ll want one for every room in your house. But since this is a gift guide for Michigan made products, just make sure you have something in your cart for a loved one on your list.
It’s so nice to be able to buy Michigan made products for yourself or as gifts. Which is your favorite? Or are there other awesome Michigan made products that you think should be on this list? Let me know! Honestly, I know there are so many more!
