They call it the “the push,” when little tourist towns begin to wake up from their long winter’s nap and start getting ready for another season.

Some of the upgrades and refreshes from last year include the new counter tops in Cabins 1 thru 4. What a difference! Do you guys remember the 70’s orange? Unfortunately Cabin 5 still has them 🙁 but keep reading for our plan on that.
New mattresses for all the cabins! We waited to tell our long time guests as a little surprise. It sounds like comfort was at the top of the wish list and it was accomplished!
By the way, we really love the new bed spreads! What do you think? More cabin-y? We actually purchased the king size for our double beds, they almost go all the way to the floor giving the rustic wooden bed frame a nice clean look.
All the maintenance projects that Bob feels are never-ending…painting everything, fixing screens on the cabin doors, replacing some of the old couches in cabins 1, 2, 3 and 5. It’s crazy how only a year and a half later I already need to update the photos for each unit.
another season starts May 13, 2017
We’d hoped to get in Cabin 5 for a nice overhaul but unfortunately that project got pushed back until next winter 2017-18. The plan is to give it a fresh update but keep it up-north-rustic.
New drapes are definitely needed but who knew they were so expensive? The current ones are on a track and have a pull-cord closure, we’re really hoping to get that type again but searching for vendors is a bit daunting and of course trying to stay inline with our decor is always a challenge.
I’d love to update the outdoors with another little flower bed, keeping in mind our feathered friends and following some of the tips included here.
With all of our projects in mind we can’t help but think about what another season will bring…
I wonder how many of the Twin Cedars guests thought everything would change because there were “new owners?” When Bob and I decided this was going to be our future (and my in-laws were so gracious to allow us to be apart of this amazing journey) we knew we wanted the traditions to remain the same while making this cozy little corner of the U.P. our own.
Heading into our third season as resort owners and this by far will be the toughest. Much worse than that first year of endless questions and sweet guidance from Harold and Judy. Much more difficult than any well or electric issue that comes out of nowhere. So much harder than any possible problem that comes along with living in the tiniest town with the most limited resources.
I feel like every year we’ll say the same thing, “wow time flew by…how is it possible that another season has gone?” But this year will be different.
We will miss…
That booming laugh during resort cookouts.
His quiet words of wisdom that were never invasive.
Constant encouragement even if he didn’t completely agree.
Those who’ve visited Twin Cedars Resort in the past, whether only once or over the last 40 years, will still feel him here. An ever presence that watches over while we carry on a legacy.
Twin Cedars Resort…a family owned business for nearly 45 years now. Families have made coming here their tradition and over the years they’ve become ours. As we move forward into our next season we look forward to seeing all those familiar faces and new ones, too.
Thank you for being apart of our world.
